Marlboro is an American brand of tobacco cigarettes manufactured in the United States by Philip Morris USA, a subsidiary of Altria, and the rest of the world by Philip Morris International. Distributed in 170 countries, is the brand's best selling cigarette in the world since 1972.
Philip Morris, a small importer of tobacco, opened his first shop in London in 1847. After his death in 1873, his family continue the tobacco trade under the same name and in 1902, the Philip Morris brand cigarettes began to be exported to U.S..
The "Marlboro" brand is registered in the United States in 1908 that no cigarette is marketed under that name before 1923. The brand name comes from the address, Great Marlborough Street, the first factory Philip Morris Inc. London, simplified "Marlboro". The Morris family moved to the United States in 1909.
When Marlboro cigarettes are born (1923 or 1924), they are first marketed as "America's luxury cigarette", and are mainly sold in hotels and resorts.
